چکیده

The “dural tail sign” was described by Wilms and colleagues as a thin, tapering rim of dural enhancement, in continuity with a convexity meningioma on gadopentetate dimeglumine– enhanced magnetic resonance (MR) (1). Goldsher and associates subsequently, in 1990, demonstrated the dural tail sign in 60% of their series of meningiomas and concluded that its presence, associated with an extraaxial mass, was very specific for meningioma (2). The dural tail sign more recently has been described in patients having chloroma, lymphoma, sarcoidosis (3), acoustic neuroma (4), and metastatic tumors (5). We report three cases demonstrating the dural tail sign. The first is a case of primary central nervous system lymphoma of the dura mater in an immunocompetent young woman. The second case is a syphilitic gumma involving the dura mater. The third case is that of an aggressive papillary middle-ear tumor extending intracranially.

Usefulness of serum glial fibrillary acidic protein for the diagnosis of glioblastoma with a dural tail sign.

“Problem of dural tail sign in glioblastoma multiforme?” by Hsieh et al., in which the authors presented a case of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) with a dural tail sign. The authors reported that the preoperative magnetic resonance imaging findings mimicked those of a meningioma with a dural tail sign. In their study, there was a high peak resonance of lipid/lactate but no increase in the resona...

Intraosseous hemangioma of the skull with dural tail sign: radiologic features with pathologic correlation.

Osseous hemangiomas of the calvaria account for about 0.2% of bone neoplasms. We report a case of an extensive intraosseous cavernous hemangioma in a 46-year-old woman. MR imaging showed a mass in the right frontal bone with intra- and extracranial extension and a dural tail sign after gadopentetate dimeglumine administration, mimicking a meningioma in which the dural tail sign was due to a dir...

Large capillary hemangioma of the temporal bone with a dural tail sign: A case report

The present study reports a rare case of large capillary hemangioma of the temporal bone with a dural tail sign. A 57-year-old female presented with pulsatile tinnitus and episodic vertigo associated with a ten-year history of an intermittent faint headache. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a mass in the right petrous bone, which was hypointense on T1-weighted images and heterogeneously hype...
